Meet the Teacher

TLC TEACHING
My name is Sarah Cason and I have been teaching Kindergarten for 16 years.  The 2017 school year will be my 15th year.  I graduated from SIUE with a Bachelor's in Education in 2003.  I am currently working on my Master's in Instructional Technology at SIUE as well.  When I am not at school, I love to spend time with my family, read, travel, be outdoors, take pictures, cheer on the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues and just stay active - running, walking, yoga, anything! I am a country girl at heart and love country music!

My husband and I have three children of our own and we spend our evenings and weekends running them to sporting events and practices and staying busy! Family is so important to me and I cherish all of the time that I get to spend with my own kiddos and husband.  💜 As all of you busy moms know, life never stops with kids!  Being at home with my family is my favorite place to be!  However, I also love the opportunities to have new adventures and explore new places. Don't blink! Time with your children and family flies by so quickly! I heard this all of the time when I was younger, but as you get older, it becomes real and you finally understand what all of those moms and grandparents were talking about when you were a kid!

My second home is my classroom.💗 I am fortunate to work with an amazing group of Kindergarten teachers and love my K Team!  I have loved the opportunity to have my own children help in my classroom from time to time and to be a part of my career in education as well.  Such a treasure to combine the two things that are most important to me. Every year in my classroom is a little different and I rearrange it or "redecorate" it to fit the needs of my students.  I am blessed with a large classroom WITH A SINK 😀 that is a great space for my students to learn and grow each year. All of you Kindergarten teachers out there understand why I am so grateful to have a classroom sink!

I have been so fortunate over the years to work with so many absolutely wonderful Kindergarten students and encourage them in their Kindergarten experience. Along my educational journey, I was fortunate to have many wonderful and inspirational teachers.  I still remember the special times from my Kindergarten year. Although the memories may be few from when I was five, they are meaningful. :) They leave me with a feeling of happiness.  That is what I want for each child that steps into my classroom. My favorite thought about Kindergarten (and teaching in general) is Love First, Teach Second.  When a child (or adult) feels love and respected, he/she is going to be motivated more and in turn, learn more as well.

A child's educational journey begins at home! 💟  For this reason, I love connecting with parents in my classroom and building a home-school relationship. My hope is that I can offer an environment for children  where they can make new friends, problem solve, build character, play, write, draw, read, grow, and most importantly - feel loved and SMART!!  ALL students are smart - just in different ways.  Every student should feel like a SUPER STAR in Kindergarten! The home school connection is an important part in a child's education. I look forward to working together with families to provide a positive learning environment for these young minds to grow!

I also am passionate about collaborating with and working with like minded individuals.  My goal with this blog is to connect with other educators to share tips and strategies that allow us to learn from each other.  I would definitely say I am proud to be a life long learner ~ learning never ends.  I am passionate about education and love the opportunity to grow and improve upon my teaching strategies.  Every year that I have taught has been so different from all of the rest.  I have gained so much knowledge over the years as an educator,  and I hope that some of it might help other teachers out there as they are leading their classrooms each day.  I also look forward to learning from a multitude of people and educators that have a wealth of knowledge to share!

💗 😊 Happy Learning and Happy Teaching!💗 😊
